Community Association news

Partner Thomas C. Martin, Esq. reports that as of last week the New Jersey Legislature was considering legislation making it all the more difficult for community associations to enforce delinquent maintenance fees during this period of time. Maintenance fees are critical to the maintenance and upkeep of association common elements. This preserves the equity of all unit owners. Legislation interfering with the ability to recoup maintenance fees would have been debilitating to all associations and unit owners. Mr. Martin reports that working through the Legislative Action Committee of the Community Associations Institute, the proposed legislation has been withdrawn from consideration as of April 13, 2020. He is continuing to work to stay on top of this issue and will continue to defend the interests of associations and unit owners.
