On Thursday October 30th, Firm Partner Ed Purcell participated in a roundtable discussion on Accessory Dwelling Units (“ADUs”) hosted by the AIA Newark and Suburban Architects at the Orange Lawn Tennis Club in South Orange New Jersey. ADUs are generally defined as dwelling units, which are either structurally part of or separate from, an existing one or two family residential structure. Along with Ed, the roundtable included local government representatives, planners, an engineer and a housing advocate and was moderated by Architect Nancy Dougherty from Studio 1200. Along with a free wielding discussion about ADUs, Ed provided a thoughtful overview of pending legislation that would effectively make ADUs a permitted use across the State of New Jersey.
